This course is designed for mid-career to senior academics in higher education institutions who often have to perform an increasing number of key roles and functions as they progress on the career ladder. Many of these roles come in addition to the core functions of teaching and research. There is often an assumption that lecturers can perform most of such roles naturally. However, there is little professional training available to support lecturers in developing the skills required to perform the different facets of their roles effectively. Much of the practices used by individual lecturers evolve from one’s own experience, informal knowledge, or trial-and-error methods. The aim of this programme is to provide an opportunity for lecturers to be equipped with professional training and skills that will strengthen their technical and strategic capabilities to perform their professional roles with greater confidence, and also an opportunity to reflect upon their current practices in a manner which is informed by relevant theory and international best practice.
